Your Alaska-born guide shares stories of small-town life on the short drive to Sandy Beach, where you'll hop out to stretch, take photos, and hear the park's local history. Continuing along Sandy Beach Road, you'll reach the Whale Observatory at Outlook Park, a covered viewing area with fixed binoculars for spotting humpback whales and native birds. From there, the bus heads "out the road," as locals say, passing canneries and the Alaska Marine Lines yard where all of Petersburg's goods arrive.

Next is Falls Creek, home to an impressive waterfall and salmon fish ladder. Your guide explains the salmon life cycle and their role in both the local ecosystem and economy. On the way back to town, you'll learn about muskeg, skunk cabbage (a bear favorite), Alaska wildflowers and berries, and lodgepole pines.

We had a trip of a lifetime! Traveled 7 nights and stayed at a remote cabin in The Chugach National Forrest that was remote, accessible by float plane. We used Rusts Flying service to fly us in and out of the cabin and then also to Cresent Lake in the Lake Clark National Park by float plane.

With our input, Viking Travel planned everything for us making it so easy. Our stay at Glacier Bay Lodge was magnificent as was our catamaran cruise on Glacier Bay and our guided bear excursion which included a spectacular floatplane ride. Itinerary was very easy follow. We had an incredible time!
