ANAN bear observatory
$475 per person
9 hours | AM tours available departing from Banana Point
Every year from early July into mid-August, as many as 300,000 salmon return to spawn in Anan Creek—making the Anan Bear & Wildlife Observatory a paradise for bears, and one of the few places in the world where black and brown bears fish side by side.
Located within the Tongass National Forest, Anan holds special protected status and is accessible only by boat. Your tour begins at Banana Point with a comfortable jet boat ride to the shore near Anan Creek, followed by a half-mile hike to spacious observation decks overlooking two cascading waterfalls.
Bears gather where the salmon pool up to leap the falls, feeding only on the fattiest parts—leaving plenty for bald eagles, ravens, otters, harbor seals, and more. Habituated to visitors on the platform, they simply go about the business of fattening up for winter.

We had a trip of a lifetime! Traveled 7 nights and stayed at a remote cabin in The Chugach National Forrest that was remote, accessible by float plane. We used Rusts Flying service to fly us in and out of the cabin and then also to Cresent Lake in the Lake Clark National Park by float plane.
